Gangpu Elementary opened in September 1953 as a branch of Linyuan Elementary School, becoming fully independent on August 1, 1955. The school later added an attached kindergarten in 1995 and established a special-education resource class in 1996, serving the small fishing-port sandflat community for which it is named.
港埔國小於民國42年（1953年）9月以林園國小分校形式設立，民國44年（1955年）8月1日正式獨立設校。學校於民國84年（1995年）附設幼兒園，民國85年（1996年）成立特教資源班，服務以其命名的漁港沙埔聚落。
