Gangpu Elementary opened in September 1953 as a branch of Linyuan Elementary School, becoming fully independent on August 1, 1955. The school later added an attached kindergarten in 1995 and established a special-education resource class in 1996, serving the small fishing-port sandflat community for which it is named.
港埔國小於民國42年(1953年)9月以林園國小分校形式設立,民國44年(1955年)8月1日正式獨立設校。學校於民國84年(1995年)附設幼兒園,民國85年(1996年)成立特教資源班,服務以其命名的漁港沙埔聚落。
