Founded for the children of a military village.
Fuxing Elementary was established on August 1, 1958, founded specifically to serve children of "Yingju 3rd Village" (影劇三村), a military dependents' village (眷村) of 500-plus households that the ROC armed forces built in the Wangliao area of Yongkang in 1957. Before the school existed, those children had to commute to Dawan Elementary. The school was created after village residents petitioned the military and the Women's League (婦聯會) for a local school, with land coming from the military and funding from the provincial and county governments. It relocated in 1999 to its current campus on Huaxing Street after its original 1950s-era buildings were deemed structurally unsafe.

A living trace of Yongkang's military-village history.
The school is directly tied to Yongkang's postwar military-dependents'-village (眷村) history — one of the clearest local examples of how the 1949 KMT retreat to Taiwan reshaped the district's demographics and built environment. See the Tainan county page for more on the region.
