Fengtian Elementary began in 1953 as "Likavung National School's Yanliao Branch," built with two thatched-roof classrooms funded directly by parents in the community. It grew into a full branch school in 1957 with four classes, and became independent in 1959 with six classes and 235 students. The school was renamed in 1968, and again with a "Taitung City" prefix in 1975 following administrative changes. It has been designated an Indigenous-focus school since 2014.
豐田國小創立於民國42年（1953年），最初為「利嘉國民學校煙寮分班」，由家長集資興建兩間茅草屋教室。民國46年（1957年）升格為分校，設有4班；民國48年（1959年）獨立設校，共6班235名學生。民國57年（1968年）更名，民國64年（1975年）行政區劃調整後再冠上「台東市」字樣。自民國103年（2014年）起為原住民重點學校。
