Founded for a military-dependents' village.
Zhongzheng Elementary opened in 1958 on land the Navy had donated in 1957 specifically to build a school for children of a nearby military-dependents' village (眷村). Its first principal, Zhu Cui'e, led the school from 1958 to 1966. Its founding is directly tied to Fongshan's history as a major KMT military garrison town in the years following 1949, and the school is named for Chiang Kai-shek (中正).
