A school its community built, literally.
Fengnian Elementary began on September 1, 1955, as a branch of Kangle Elementary School, becoming independent on August 10, 1963, and taking its present name in 1968. In February 1963, a dedicated school building committee formed and purchased 1.7 jia (roughly 1.65 hectares) of land for the campus — a grassroots effort typical of Taitung's postwar school expansion. The campus was rebuilt and completed in December 2007, and the school has been led by eleven principals across its history.
