A school born at the hinge of two eras.
Fenglin Junior High evolved out of a Japanese-era vocational agricultural school around the transition from Japanese rule to Republic of China governance in 1945–46, formally taking the name "Fenglin Junior High" in 1968. Its early history carries a weighty and poignant connection to Fenglin's identity as a "town of doctors": physician Zhang Qi-lang served as acting principal of the predecessor agricultural school starting in November 1945, and his son Zhang Zong-ren later became principal of the reorganized junior high. Tragically, Zhang Qi-lang and two of his sons were executed during the 228 Incident — one of the darkest chapters in Taiwan's modern history — making the school's founding story inseparable from Fenglin's own.

The Zhang family's involvement in founding the school ties it directly to Fenglin's storied reputation for producing an unusual number of doctors and educators.
🌾 Evolved From an Agricultural School
The junior high's predecessor was a Japanese-era vocational agricultural school, reflecting Fenglin's long farming heritage before it became a modern junior high.
Fenglin, the hometown of principals and doctors.
Fenglin Township (鳳林鎮) is a historic Hakka farming town famously known for producing an unusually high number of school principals and physicians — a legacy commemorated at the town's own "Principal's Dream Factory" (校長夢工廠) museum. This junior high's founding story, tied to the Zhang family of doctors, sits right at the heart of that identity.
