A name that bridges two neighborhoods.
Fongjia Junior High was approved for establishment in May 1980 and became a Kaohsiung municipal school after the 2010 city-county merger. Its first intake was just six classes, and the school initially borrowed classrooms from nearby Wujia Elementary School before settling into its own campus. Its name, "鳳甲," is a portmanteau of Fongshan (鳳山) and Wujia (五甲), the two communities it was built to serve.

Two neighborhoods, one name.
"鳳甲" is a portmanteau of Fongshan (鳳山) and Wujia (五甲) — a naming choice that captures how the school sits at the meeting point of two of the district's historically distinct communities. See the Kaohsiung county page for more on the region.
