About · 學校簡介

Named for a sacred mountain.

Fengbin Elementary began in 1911 as a branch of Tafalong Public School at a site called Fakong, the old name from which "Fengbin" itself derives. It became independent in 1915 and was renamed several times over the following decades. Then, on August 1, 2019, the school transformed into Taiwan's very first Amis Indigenous experimental elementary school — a milestone in Indigenous education nationwide — and took the name Cilangasan, after the sacred ancestral mountain that the Amis people regard as central to their origin stories.

🥇 Taiwan's First Amis Experimental School

全台第一所阿美族實驗小學

On August 1, 2019, Fengbin Elementary became the first school in Taiwan to formally adopt Amis Indigenous experimental school status, a milestone that other schools — including nearby Hegang Elementary — later followed.

⛰️ Named for the Sacred Mountain Cilangasan

聖山 Cilangasan

The school's Indigenous name honors Cilangasan, the mountain the Amis people regard as their sacred point of origin — anchoring the school's identity in Amis cosmology itself.

🏘️ Fengbin's Namesake Roots

地名 Fakong 的由來

The school's original site, Fakong, is the very source of the township name "Fengbin" — tying the school's origins directly to the naming of the surrounding township.

🏔️

As Taiwan's first Amis experimental school, named for the Amis sacred mountain Cilangasan, Fengbin Elementary anchors the township's identity as a remote coastal Amis Indigenous community. Fengbin Township — its name itself descended from the school's original site of Fakong — sits along Hualien's dramatic east coast highway, home to Amis villages and, in nearby Xinshe, Taiwan's only Kavalan-designated elementary school.
