二苓國小於民國69年（1980年）核准設校，民國70年（1981年）7月正式創校，首任校長為張燈壽。校園歷經三期工程，分別於1983年、1984年與1987年完工。校名「二苓」屬於高雄沿海地區特有的地名傳統，「苓」字指的是早年沿海地帶叢生蘆葦、燈心草的濕地地貌。
