From a branch school to a rural-education pioneer.

Emei Junior High opened in September 1956 as "Beipu Junior High School's Emei Branch," becoming fully independent on February 17, 1967, and taking its current name in 1968. In 2020 the school entered a new chapter, converting into a KIST (KIPP-inspired charter-style) public-private partnership school — the first of its kind in the Hsinchu/Miaoli area, formed through a three-way collaboration between the county government, the Chengzhi Education Foundation, and TSMC aimed at revitalizing rural education. Now branded "A School for Future Global Talents," it emphasizes bilingual education alongside a strong agriculture and tea-culture curriculum built in partnership with local farms and tea factories.
