About · 學校簡介

Founded on land given by a coal-mining pioneer.

Dunan Elementary School began as a branch school in September 1955, on land donated by coal-mining company operator Li Jianxing. The first classes were held in the founding principal's home while the school building was under construction, which was completed in May 1958; the school became fully independent in September 1957. The surrounding area was historically called "Baisha" (白沙, "White Sand") for its visible mineral deposits, before being renamed Wudu and later split into the neighboring communities of Dunan and Dubei.

「白沙」舊地名

The area was historically called "Baisha" (White Sand) for its visible mineral deposits, before being renamed Wudu and later split into today's Dunan and Dubei communities.

A former coal-mining village.

⛏️

The area's name and the school's very founding are directly tied to a local coal-mining economy — an inland mining-linked strand of Keelung's broader resource economy, distinct from the coastal fishing culture found in the city's harbor districts. See the Keelung county page for more on the region.
