An old school with an unexpected icon.
Dulan Elementary was founded in 1907 during the Japanese colonial era under the name "Turan Public School," going through several renamings before settling on its current name in 1968. It was officially designated an Indigenous-focus school in 2006. In 1947, the school spawned a branch in Xingchang, which became independent the following year. Located in Dulan — Taitung's celebrated Amis Indigenous village turned artist-and-surfer haven — the school is one of the oldest in the area, with more than a century of history serving the community.
