Dongxin Junior High School was founded on August 30, 1996, becoming the second junior high school established in the Donggang area, after the original Donggang Junior High School (whose lineage continues today as the junior-high division of Pingtung County Donggang Senior High School). The school maintains a "New Student Zone" (新生專區) web section to help incoming students each academic year get oriented before their first day.
東新國中創立於民國85年（1996年）8月30日，是東港地區繼原東港國中之後成立的第二所國中（東港國中的辦學脈絡如今延續於屏東縣立東港高級中學的國中部）。學校官網設有「新生專區」，協助每學年新生在開學前做好準備。
