Founded before the Republic of China itself.
Dongli Elementary was founded on June 10, 1909, under the name "Taitō Prefecture Dazhuang Public School" — three years before the Republic of China was even established. It ranks among Hualien County's seven oldest schools, with well over 115 years of continuous history. Over the decades, Dongli spawned branch campuses that eventually became independent schools in their own right: Wanning in 1959 and Wujiang in 1969, both still serving their own communities today. The campus was rebuilt in 2007 and now includes a synthetic-turf soccer field, a planetarium, and a museum dedicated to the school's own century-plus history.
