A choir powerhouse in the East Lake basin.
Taipei Municipal Donghu Junior High School was established in the late 1980s, with sources generally citing 1989 as its founding year (though a secondary source gives 1990). The school is best known for its boys' choir (男聲合唱團), a longstanding powerhouse in Taiwan's National Student Music Competition — a 2015 news report noted a 23-consecutive-year winning streak in the Northern Region finals. As of August 2024, the school's seventh principal, Lin Kai-chiung, leads the campus, which sits in Donghu, a low-lying basin along the Keelung River.

🌊 Built on Reclaimed Flood-Basin Land
建於昔日淹水盆地
The school sits in Donghu, a low-lying basin along the Keelung River that was prone to flooding until flood-control works allowed its dense residential development from the 1980s onward.
Named for a lake that no longer exists.
Donghu Junior High is located in Donghu (East Lake), a low-lying basin along the Keelung River that was prone to flooding until flood-control works enabled its dense residential build-out in the 1980s and '90s — the "lake" in the name refers to this historically wet terrain, not an actual lake that exists today. See the Taipei county page for more on the region.
