A center of Indigenous culture in the East Lake basin.
Taipei Municipal Donghu Elementary School traces its origins to a branch school established in 1946, according to the Neihu District Office's official district gazetteer, becoming an independent school in 1951 (a secondary source instead cites 1943, though the gazetteer account is treated as more authoritative here). As of 2006, the school had 77 students of Indigenous heritage — reportedly the highest number of any elementary school in Taipei City. Building on that community, Donghu runs Indigenous-language classes, after-school tutoring for Indigenous students, and cultural programming in dance, language, and traditional crafts.

Built on flood-control history.
Donghu Elementary sits in the Donghu basin along the Keelung River, low-lying terrain that was flood-prone until engineering works allowed its dense 1980s–90s residential development — directly tying the school to the district's flood-control and urbanization history. See the Taipei county page for more on the region.
