From borrowed classrooms to a campus of its own.
Donghai Junior High opened in 1967 as "臺東縣立第二初級中學" (Taitung County Second Junior High School) and was renamed Donghai in 1968. It began with just four classes, temporarily housed at nearby Ren-Ai Elementary School while its own campus was under construction. The school finally relocated to its current, permanent campus on June 28, 2003 — a milestone still remembered in its institutional history.

🏫 A School That Started Small
創校僅四班
Donghai began with just four classes, borrowing space at Ren-Ai Elementary — a modest start for a school that has since grown into a full Taitung City institution.
🏗️ A Long-Awaited Campus
2003年遷入現址
The school waited decades before finally moving into its own permanent campus on June 28, 2003, a date still marked in school memory.
🤝 Born From a Neighbor's Generosity
仁愛國小借址開學
Its early years sharing space with Ren-Ai Elementary reflect a pattern common across Taitung's mid-century school expansion, when new schools often opened before their own buildings were ready.
Part of Taitung City's everyday fabric.
Like its Taitung City neighbors, the school serves a community that blends Han residents with the region's Puyuma and Amis Indigenous population. See the schools directory for more Taitung County listings.
