Donghai Elementary opened on August 1, 1956, as a branch of Liujia National School, becoming independent in 1959 and adopting its current name in 1988. Today the school is undergoing a major new campus and activity-center construction project, with a budget of roughly NT$54 million, specifically to accommodate Zhubei's growing population. The newer campus building project broke ground with expected completion around August 2026.
