Dingnei Elementary was established by government order in 1957 under founding principal Fan Kunyuan, starting with just four classes. The school grew steadily in its early decades — eight classes by 1959, twelve by 1964, and eighteen by 1968 — and celebrated its 68th anniversary in 2025. Its enduring motto, "揚帆啟碇、名聞宇內" ("set sail and become renowned"), plays on the school's own name (碇, meaning "anchor") to build a seafaring metaphor directly into its identity.
碇內國小於民國46年（1957年）奉令設校，首任校長范坤元帶領學校從僅有4個班級起步。學校在草創初期穩定成長——1959年增至8班，1964年12班，1968年達18班——並於2025年慶祝建校68週年。校訓「揚帆啟碇、名聞宇內」巧妙運用校名中的「碇」字（意指船錨），將航海意象融入學校精神。
