From a branch of "Xiongzhong" to its own campus.
Dingjin Junior High School began in 1955 as 高雄中學鼎金分校, a branch campus of prestigious Kaohsiung Senior High School (雄中). It became an independent institution in 1957 under the name 高雄市立第六初級中學 (Kaohsiung Municipal Sixth Junior High School), later taking its present name, 鼎金國中. The campus sits near Chengcing Lake and Golden Lion Lake, in an area served by major rail and highway interchanges, and carries the historic "覆鼎金" place name shared by several other schools in this part of Sanmin District.
