Two renames, one enduring campus.

Dingjin Elementary School opened on April 1, 1942, under Japanese rule, as When Taiwan returned to Republic of China administration in 1945, it was renamed 高雄市立第十七國民學校, before settling on its present name, 高雄市立三民區鼎金國民學校, on April 1, 1946. Carrying the historic "覆鼎金" (Fudingjin) place name shared with several other schools in this corner of Sanmin District, Dingjin Elementary is one of the area's oldest continuously operating schools, having passed through both the Japanese-era and ROC-era waves of school renaming.
