Named for the sun-children of Sandimen.
Timur Elementary traces its roots to 1909, when it was founded as an "educational institute" (教育所) under Japanese colonial rule. Renamed Sandi National School after the war, it took its current name — Timur — in 2015, drawing on the local Paiwan place name for the area, said to mean children who are "sun children tempered by the earth." Between 2016 and 2017 the school was recognized as an indigenous experimental elementary school (原住民族實驗小學), and it now maintains a branch campus in Dewen Village. The school celebrated more than a century of history with its centennial anniversary.

🌄 A Branch Campus in Dewen Village
德文村分校
Beyond its main campus, Timur Elementary operates a branch campus in the mountain village of Dewen, extending its reach further into Sandimen's highland communities.
At the heart of Paiwan Sandimen.
Timur Elementary sits at the heart of Sandimen Township, a Paiwan indigenous mountain community renowned for its slate-house culture and its living traditions of Paiwan glass-bead and pottery artistry. The school's very name embodies Paiwan cosmology — the idea of a people descended from the sun — making it one of the clearest examples in the region of a school whose identity is inseparable from the indigenous culture that surrounds it.
