A small school with a world championship.
Dexie Elementary School was established March 1, 1947, as Pingtung Municipal Dexie National School, with Qiu Rensheng as its first principal. Renamed to reflect its location in Changzhi Township after the 1950 provincial reorganization, it took its current name in 1968. Today the school enrolls around 70 students, but punches well above its size: its billiards team, formed in 2003, won 14 team championships by 2011, and its diabolo (Chinese yo-yo) team captured a world championship in 2009. The campus also features a 200-meter synthetic running track completed in 2012 and serves as a soil-and-water conservation demonstration site with outdoor survival courses.
