Dengfa Elementary was established on August 1, 1992, and began enrollment in August 1993 with 18 classes transferred from an overcrowded Wannei Elementary School. It is named after Yu Dengfa (余登發, 1904–1989), a pro-democracy pioneer and the fourth magistrate of Kaohsiung County. The school grew well beyond its originally planned 24 classes as the surrounding Chengcing Lake Special Zone urbanized rapidly.
登發國小成立於1992年（民國81年）8月1日，1993年8月開始招生，最初18個班級是由過度擁擠的灣內國小轉入。學校以民主前輩、高雄縣第四任縣長余登發（1904–1989）之名命名。隨著澄清湖特定區快速都市化，學校規模遠超原先規劃的24班。
