Dazhu Junior High began in 1958 as a branch campus and became an independent junior high in 1962, converting to standard nine-year-compulsory-education status in 1968. Renamed to its current name in 2014, the school today enrolls about 1,137 students across 41 classes and 94 teachers, running wind-band, basketball, rugby, and dance/cheerleading programs alongside an attached preschool. Its rugby team won the National Zhongzheng Cup 10-a-side championship in 2009, a lasting point of local pride.
大竹國中於民國47年（1958年）以分校形式創立，民國51年（1962年）獨立設校，民國57年（1968年）配合九年國教改制。民國103年（2014年）更名為現名。學校現有41班、學生約1,137人、教師94人（民國114年統計），設有管樂、籃球、橄欖球及舞蹈啦啦隊等社團，並附設幼兒園。橄欖球隊於民國98年（2009年）榮獲全國中正盃十人制橄欖球錦標賽冠軍，是在地一大驕傲。

Dazhu Junior High serves the historic Dazhu (大竹) settlement, one of Luzhu District's three traditional core communities alongside Nankan and Kengzi (坑子). Several other Luzhu elementary schools — Luzhu, Xinxing, and Xinzhuang Elementary — all trace their own origins back to branch classrooms of the original Dazhu school, making Dazhu one of the district's true educational "mother" lineages.
