Founded on land shaped by a river.
Dazhou Junior High began in 1960 as a branch of Qishan Middle School based in nearby Xizhou, initially borrowing classrooms from Xizhou Elementary School before its own campus was completed. It became an independent school in 1963 under the former Kaohsiung County, as Dazhou Junior High School. The school takes its name from the local Dazhou and Xizhou area, land formed over time by the shifting meanders of the Qishan River.
