From a naval training ground to a city high school.
Dazhi Senior High School opened in 1964 as a junior high, built on the former site of a Taiwan Provincial Training Corps facility that had itself been a Japanese-era naval training ground constructed in 1932. It originally admitted only male students after formally converting to junior-high status in 1968, later becoming coeducational.
In the 1990s wave of school upgrades that created several of Taipei's "complete middle schools" (combining junior and senior high divisions), Dazhi became a full complete school in 1998 under a 1997 preparatory committee led by principal Yu Lin. The campus sits on Bei'an Road — the district's namesake corridor — connecting the school directly to the story of how Dazhi grew from isolated farmland into a modern Taipei neighborhood.

🛣️ On the Namesake "Straight Road"
The campus sits on Bei'an Road, the modern extension of the old rural road that gave the Dazhi neighborhood ("big straight") its name.
The road that named a neighborhood.
The Dazhi neighborhood takes its name ("大直" = "big straight") from the once-rural farm road running directly from Yuanshan to Mingshui Road and Bei'an Road that connected it to the city — the same road the school now sits on, embodying the area's transformation from isolated farmland into a modern Taipei suburb. See the Taipei county page for more on the region.
