A schoolyard view of Turtle Island.
Daxi Elementary traces its history to 1918, when it opened as a branch of Toucheng Public School under the name It became independent in 1922 as 大谷公學校, was renamed 大溪國民學校 in 1946, and moved into its current campus building, completed in 1998. The school sits directly opposite Turtle Island (龜山島) on the Pacific coast, next to the scenic Waiao area known as "Honeymoon Bay" (蜜月灣), a popular surfing destination.
