A regional hub for two townships.

Dawang Junior High was established in 1968 as Taiwan rolled out nine-year compulsory education nationwide. It now draws students from five elementary schools across both Taimali and Jinfeng Townships, making it the shared junior high for a wide stretch of Taitung's southern coast. With roughly 166 students, the school runs six regular classes alongside three Indigenous experimental classes and one special-education class — a structure that reflects its student body, of which about 86 percent are Indigenous, predominantly Paiwan.
