Dawan Junior High was established on August 1, 1999, under its first principal, Cai Senhuang, to serve nine villages clustered near Chengcing Lake and Shuanghu Forest Park as the area urbanized through the 1990s. The campus was developed in phases from 1999 to 2009 and today holds the largest campus land area among the former Kaohsiung County junior high schools. It now enrolls around 814 students.
大灣國中創立於1999年（民國88年）8月1日，首任校長為蔡森煌，設校是為了服務澄清湖與雙湖森林公園周邊九個里因1990年代都市化而快速增加的學童。校園自1999年至2009年分期興建，目前是原高雄縣國中裡佔地最大的校園，全校約814名學生。
