A school on the mountain's slope.
Datun Elementary began in 1953 as a branch class of Beitou Elementary. It became an independent branch school in 1959, and finally a fully independent school under its current name in 1969. Set on the slope of Datun Mountain, inside the boundaries of Yangmingshan National Park, the school leans into its mountain setting with nature-themed events — including "登峰造極" ("Reaching the Summit") graduation hikes that have been reported in local press.

Named for and standing on Datun Mountain.
Datun Elementary is directly named after and physically located on Datun Mountain (大屯山), the dominant peak of the Yangmingshan volcanic range — the same volcanic system whose geothermal activity feeds Beitou's famous hot springs. See the Taipei county page for more on the region.
