Built on a historic settlement's former marine-school site.
Daren Junior High was established on May 2, 1970, on the former site of the Taiwan Provincial Kaohsiung School of Marine Technology in the Wukuaicuo area. Its roughly 1.9-hectare campus was still under construction when the first cohort of students arrived, so they initially borrowed classrooms from Wufu Junior High. The school's site sits within Wukuaicuo ("five-plot village"), a historic settlement in Lingya District.
