Named for the bridge to Sanchong.
Daqiao Elementary was founded in 1925, during the Japanese colonial era, as Daqiao (Ohashi) Public School — named after the "Taipei Bridge" (臺北橋), whose own history runs from a Qing-era wooden bridge built under governor Liu Mingchuan, through a 1921 iron rebuild, to its completion in 1925, the very year the school opened. The school initially held classes borrowing space from Taiping Public School (today's Taiping Elementary) before its own campus was built, with construction starting in November 1925 and finishing in September 1926. In recent years, the school's playground has been rebuilt as an inclusive, co-play (共融式) playground themed around memories of the Taipei Bridge, according to a Taipei City Government press release.

The bridge that built a school.
Daqiao Elementary is directly named for and thematically tied to the historic Taipei Bridge, the river crossing that anchored Dadaocheng's role as a trading gateway between Taipei and the Sanchong/Sanzhong side of the Tamsui River. From a Qing-era wooden bridge to today's modern span, the bridge's story runs parallel to the school's own century of history.
