Daoxiang Elementary School

A school whose very name — "Rice Fragrance" — commemorates the Japanese-era rice-breeding fields that once covered its grounds.

A school named after the fragrance of rice.

Daoxiang Elementary began as a branch of Yichang Elementary in 1954 and became independent on April 1, 1956. Its campus sits on land that was originally allocated during the Japanese colonial period as an experimental paddy field for cultivating "Yoshino No. 1" rice, a variety tied to the nearby Yoshino immigrant farming village — the school has used this land since 1956. Daoxiang reached its historical peak of 18 classes in 1975, the same year its own Guanghua branch became fully independent, continuing the township's pattern of schools splitting off from one another as the population grew.

🌾 Built on a Rice-Breeding Field

The campus sits on land once used as a Japanese-era experimental paddy for cultivating "Yoshino No. 1" rice, a heritage the school has held onto since 1956.

📈 A Historic Peak of 18 Classes

Daoxiang reached its largest size in 1975, with 18 classes — a marker of how much Ji'an's population had grown by the mid-1970s.

🌱 Another Branch Becomes Independent

In the same year Daoxiang peaked in size, its own Guanghua branch became fully independent — part of a broader pattern of school-splitting across Ji'an Township.
