Danan Elementary School

Danan Elementary — now rebranded the Darumak Ethnic Experimental Elementary School — holds a singular place among Taiwan's schools: it is the only one in the entire country serving the Taromak (達魯瑪克) people, a community of the East Rukai, whose Indigenous heritage is distinct from both the Tao of Orchid Island and the Puyuma more typically associated with Beinan Township. The school dates to the Japanese colonial era, with its founding placed somewhere around 1921–1926 (the school has celebrated a centennial, though the precise founding year is not firmly documented). Today, more than 85 percent of the surrounding population is Taromak East Rukai, and the school's student body is itself nearly 100 percent Indigenous — a proportion that led to its recognition as Taiwan's fifth Indigenous experimental elementary school.

大南國小——現已更名為達魯瑪克民族實驗小學——在全台灣的學校中占有獨特地位：它是全國唯一服務達魯瑪克族（East Rukai，東魯凱族的一支）的學校，其原住民文化背景既不同於蘭嶼的達悟族，也有別於卑南鄉更常見的卑南族。學校創立於日治時期，確切年份約落在1921至1926年間（校方曾舉辦創校百年慶，但精確創校年份尚無明確文獻記載）。如今，學校周邊人口逾85%為達魯瑪克東魯凱族，全校學生幾乎百分之百為原住民，這樣的比例也讓該校成為台灣第五所原住民族實驗小學。
