Daliao Junior High opened on August 1, 1968, as the first public secondary school in Daliao District. As the district's population grew, the school established branch campuses that later became independent schools in their own right — Chaoliao Junior High in 1983 and Zhongzhuang Junior High in 1991. A major campus reconstruction beginning in 2011 earned the school a 2013 Yuan-ye Architecture Award, and by 2022 it enrolled roughly 706 students.
大寮國中創立於民國57年（1968年）8月1日，是大寮區第一所公立中學。隨著區內人口成長，學校陸續設立分校，後來分別獨立為潮寮國中（1983年）與中庄國中（1991年）。校園自2011年起進行大規模重建，並於2013年榮獲遠東建築獎，2022年在校學生約706人。

Daliao ("big shed/hut") takes its name from the storage sheds and farm huts built by early Han settlers who cultivated the area's fields — a place-name pattern shared with several other Daliao communities such as Chaoliao ("tide hut") and Xiliao ("stream hut").
