A name that means "great brightness."
Daguang Elementary School began in 1952 as a branch class of Longquan Elementary School, becoming an independent school named Daguang National School in 1960 and taking its current name, Daguang Elementary School, in 1968. The village of Daguang itself was renamed after Taiwan's post-war retrocession, replacing the old name "大樹房" with "大光" — chosen by a local official to mean "great brightness." Today the school includes an attached kindergarten and sits near Houbihu, a well-known fishing harbor and marine-tourism spot on the Hengchun Peninsula.

By the harbor, in the land of folk song.
Daguang Elementary sits near Houbihu (後壁湖), a well-known fishing harbor and marine-tourism spot that is part of the Hengchun Peninsula's coastal economy tied to Kenting National Park. The wider area also carries the traditional "思想起" (Thinking Of) folk-song heritage, the emblematic Hengchun-Manzhou ballad sung to moon-guitar (月琴) accompaniment — a reminder that this stretch of coastline is as culturally rich as it is scenic. See the Pingtung county page for more on the region.
