Older than the Republic of China.
Dabang Elementary was founded on November 4, 1904, as "Dabang Aboriginal Children's Education Institute" under Japanese colonial police-administered indigenous education — making it the oldest elementary school in Taiwan, older than the Republic of China itself. The school celebrated its 120th anniversary in 2024, and has been renamed several times through the decades before settling on its current name in 1989, after Wufeng Township was renamed Alishan Township. Located in Dabang, the largest and most important Tsou tribal settlement (大社), the school's student body is nearly 100% Tsou indigenous, and it transitioned into a Tsou Indigenous Cultural Experimental School starting the 2018 academic year, with a branch campus at Lika offering its own featured study-tour program.
