A century-old school, relocated after disaster.
Xiulin Elementary was founded on March 27, 1919, as "打貓公學校林子尾分校" (a branch of Damao Public School in Linziwei) — sharing the same historic "Damao" place name as Minsyong Elementary. After the 1999 (921) earthquake damaged the campus, and given shifts in local population, the school relocated to the more populous Beidou Village, where it sits today. With over a century of history, the school now fields a baseball team, runs bilingual education with extensive English resources including Cool English and Bill Kuo English materials alongside an SDG curriculum, and houses its collection in a library named "Yushan Library" (玉山圖書館).

Bilingual education draws on Cool English and Bill Kuo English materials, giving students a well-resourced path to English fluency.
🏘️ Relocated After the 921 Earthquake
Damage from the 1999 earthquake, combined with population shifts, led the school to relocate to Beidou Village, where it continues its century-long history today.
Another echo of the "Damao" era.
Like Minsyong Elementary, Xiulin's original name references the pre-1920 "Damao" place name, and its post-921-earthquake relocation to Beidou Village is part of the same wave of disaster-driven school reorganization that produced nearby Fule Elementary School. See the Chiayi County page for more on the region.
