A junior high steeped in performance traditions.
Xingang Junior High traces its educational lineage back to 1898, making Xingang home to one of Chiayi County's oldest school histories, though the junior high in its present form was organized later in the postwar period. Today the school is best known for its arts-talent programs: its Chinese orchestra and visual arts classes have won numerous competitions, and its recorder ensemble captured five consecutive county championships before representing Chiayi County at the national level. The school's football team has also claimed a national championship, and its lion dance team won a top "special excellence" award in 2025.

Echoes of the Matsu pilgrimage.
Xingang Township is home to Fengtian Temple (奉天宮) and its famous Baan-kau (刈火) Matsu pilgrimage, one of Taiwan's most celebrated folk-religious festivals. Xingang Junior High's strong folk-performance traditions — its lion dance team and music programs — directly echo the temple-centered festival culture that defines the township. See the Chiayi County page for more on the region.
