A century-old school reborn as an eco-humanities campus.
Taiping Elementary was founded in 1922, during the Japanese colonial era, and celebrated its 100th anniversary with a commemorative publication, the "Taiping Elementary 100th Anniversary Special Edition." Sitting at roughly 1,000 meters elevation — one of the highest-altitude schools in Chiayi County — the school transformed in 2015 into an "ecological and humanities experimental school," describing itself as "a school of ecology that practices cross-disciplinary innovation and exploratory experience." Its efforts have been recognized with the Ministry of Education's Teaching Excellence gold medal in 2020 and Taiwan-US Eco-Schools International Bronze Certification.
