A name built from four hamlets.
Meilin Elementary was founded in September 1959 as a branch campus of Xikou Elementary School, becoming independent in August 1964 when it merged the Meibei and Chailin branches into "Chiayi County Meilin National School." It took its current name in 1968 under the nine-year compulsory education reform (the Chailin branch later split off again in 1976 to become its own independent school). Today it is one of the smallest schools in the area, with about 54 students across 6 classes, guided by the motto "Polite, Focused, Know How to Live," and it partners with the KGI Charity Foundation on student support programs.

Named for the hamlets it serves.
A very small rural school with only about 54 students, Meilin Elementary's very name and boundary encode the patchwork of farming hamlets — Meibei, Meinan, Chailin, and Linjiao — that make up this corner of Xikou Township.
