Datong Elementary was established on April 1, 1923, as Puzi Girls' Public School — a girls-only counterpart created when Puzi Public School was divided by sex. It was renamed Dahe Public School (coed) in 1940, Dahe National School in 1942, and went through several post-war renamings: Tainan County Puzi Township 2nd National School in 1946, Datong National School in 1947, transfer to Chiayi County in 1950, Datong Elementary School in 1968, and a city-status update in 1992. The school celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2023 with a fair featuring a retro arch, board games, and embroidered banners. Today it hosts the Chiayi County International Education Center (嘉義縣國際教育中心) and a 'foreign teacher storytelling' program, alongside family education resources and parent handbooks maintained online.
大同國小創立於大正12年（1923年）4月1日，初名朴子女子公學校，是朴子公學校依性別分校時設立的女子學校。民國29年（1940年）改為男女合校的大和公學校，民國31年（1942年）改稱大和國民學校，戰後歷經多次更名：民國35年（1946年）改稱台南縣朴子鎮第二國民學校，民國36年（1947年）改稱大同國民學校，民國39年（1950年）改隸嘉義縣，民國57年（1968年）定名大同國小，民國81年（1992年）隨朴子升格為市更新校名。學校於民國112年（2023年）舉辦建校百年校慶園遊會，設有復古牌樓、桌遊與繡旗等活動。如今校內設有嘉義縣國際教育中心與「外師說故事」活動，並於線上維護家庭教育資源與家長手冊。
