National Chiayi Special Education School was founded in July 1994 as the “Taiwan Provincial Chiayi School for the Intellectually Disabled.” After the provincial government was dissolved, it became a national institution, and it took its current designation on August 1, 2014. The school today serves about 242 students across 25 classes, providing specialized education for students with intellectual disabilities across multiple age levels.
國立嘉義特殊教育學校創立於民國83年（1994年）7月，前身為「臺灣省立嘉義啟智學校」。精省後改為國立學校，並於民國103年（2014年）8月1日正式定名為現名。目前全校約有242名學生，共25個班級，提供跨年齡層的智能障礙學生特殊教育服務。
