National Chiayi Industrial Vocational Senior High School was founded in 1921 under Japanese rule as Chiayi Commercial and Industrial Elementary School. It became a national school in 1990 amid the restructuring of Taiwan's provincial government, and today enrolls over 3,300 students. The school is recognized as one of Taiwan's "Eight Great Provincial Industrial Schools" and has run a rare public driver-training program since 1958.
嘉義高工創立於1921年（大正10年），日治時期名為嘉義公商工業學校。民國79年（1990年）臺灣省政府組織改制後改隸國立。現有學生逾3,300人，是臺灣「八大省立工職」之一。學校自民國47年（1958年）起設有少見的公費駕駛訓練班。
