An offshoot of North Gate Elementary.
Tzu-Wen Elementary began as the "慈文分校" (Ciwen Branch) of Bei-Men (North Gate) Elementary, approved on July 8, 1997 and opening for instruction in August 1998 with 14 classes and 516 students under founding principal Zhang Xian-kun. It became independent in 1999. The school is designated one of Taoyuan City's Health Promotion Schools, runs more than 20 student clubs — over a third of them sports-related — and inaugurated its "思源亭" (Siyuan Pavilion) on October 10, 2013 as part of a city-wide character-education initiative.

An echo of Taoyuan's old city gates.
Tzu-Wen Elementary split off from 北門國小 (North Gate Elementary), whose name echoes the old walled-city gate system of historic Taoyuan — a reminder that the district's modern school map still traces the outline of the original Qing- and Japanese-era town. See the Taoyuan county page for more on the region.
