From a girls' school to a coeducational campus.

Chongqing Junior High was founded on August 1, 1969, under founding principal He Wenqin as "Taipei Municipal Chongqing Girls' Junior High School," initially borrowing classrooms at Bei'an Girls' High School in Dazhi before moving to its current Dunhuang Road site. The school became coeducational and was renamed "Taipei Municipal Chongqing Junior High School" in July 1991. It has had at least nine principals through 2020, reflecting more than five decades of continuous operation in Datong District.

Part of Taipei's oldest district.

🏮

Chongqing Junior High sits within Datong District, Taipei's oldest settled area, though no distinct historical tie between the campus itself and specific nearby landmarks has been documented. The district remains closely identified with the historic Dadaocheng old street, its Qing-era tea-export trade, and landmarks such as the Confucius Temple and Bao'an Temple in nearby Dalongdong.
