From Qing-dynasty Nanjing to the Sun Moon Lake foothills.
National Chi Nan University (NCNU) traces its roots to 1906, when 暨南學堂 was founded in Nanjing during the late Qing Dynasty as one of China's earliest schools for overseas Chinese students. The institution's name and mission were revived in Taiwan in 1995 (ROC 84), when the university was re-established on a 150-hectare campus in Puli Township, Nantou County — making it, over a century after its founding, the county's only university. Today NCNU serves about 6,556 students, including 4,802 undergraduates and 1,754 graduate students, and is ranked among Taiwan's leading universities for research output.
