Chengzhong Elementary began in 1953 as a branch class, becoming independent in 1956. Despite its name, which literally means "in the city," the school is actually located just outside Tongxiao's town center. Its campus features a small roundabout with a statue of Sun Yat-sen surrounded by flower beds, a distinctive local landmark.
城中國小於1953年（民國42年）以分班形式設立，1956年（民國45年）獨立設校。雖然校名意為「城中」，但學校實際上位於通霄鎮舊市區外圍。校園內有一座小型圓環，設有國父孫中山銅像與花圃，是當地知名地標。
