A school born in wartime China.
Chengzheng Elementary School has an unusually layered history. It began in 1939 in Duyun, Guizhou, China, founded by Nationalist general Sun Li-jen and his wife as the "Army 38th Division Officers' and Soldiers' Children's School," serving the children of war orphans and military dependents during wartime. The school relocated to Taiwan in 1948, settling opposite the Fengshan Army Academy, and was reorganized under Kaohsiung County's civilian school system in 1958 before taking its current name in 2010. In 1996, a branch campus, "力行分校," split off to become the independent Guopi Elementary School. Given this layered history, no single "founding year" fully captures the school's story — this page presents the timeline honestly rather than forcing one date.

📜 A Rare Lineage Among Taiwan's Schools
Few Taiwanese public schools can trace their origin to a refugee school for military dependents founded on the Chinese mainland before the 1949 retreat.
A living link to 1949-era history.
Chengzheng's campus sits within 黃埔新村, a historic military dependents' village opposite the Fengshan Army Academy — physical evidence of the school's unusual origin as a wartime institution for military families that later became a neighborhood elementary school. See the Kaohsiung county page for more on the region.
